SPECIAL EDUCATION STUDENTS 'CRUISE TO THE PROM' IN STYLE
‘CRUISE TO THE PROM’ MAKE SOME GREAT MEMORIES
• Local group escorts Special Education students to prom
• Thanks to Ron & Leann Darby for this special event
• IBEW Local 95 host a dinner then it's off to prom!
(64804) — 5 years ago Leann & Ron Darby wanted to make Cole's prom special so they arranged to take him in their classic pick up. However Cole wanted all his friends in the Special Education Department at Joplin High to have the same chance.
“This is the 5th year we have done this,” Carol Corbin Buck of the group, Car Buddies, tells Joplin News First. “The kids [of the Special Education Dept] have a banquet at the Electrical Union building [@IbewLocal95], 33rd and Main. They get in our cars there and have a police escort to Joplin High.”
Thank you parents, teachers and paraprofessionals for your tireless work with these great kids. Thanks to Joplin Police Department for directing traffic and the official escort. Thanks to IBEW Local 95 for hosting the dinner. And thank you all the Car Buddies who volunteer their vehicles to make last night - one to remember. But most of all thanks to the Darby's who were inspired to start the event and organize this labor of love.
The next time you can see some classic cars will be April 19 at Third Thursday in front of JB's 3rd Thursday Cruise In at 1st and Main. And the next Home Depot 1st Saturday Car Cruise is May 5. Join Max Edward Hill (Sound Design Mobile DJ's) and the The Home Depot crew, 20th and Rangeline, for music, memories and another moment to enjoy these classic rides.
Joplin News First friend David Robert Fulton captured this special video for us, thanks BRO!
